NEPAL on top of the world!
Photographs from our recent tour by Phil Palmer
A wonderful mix of culture, scenery & wildlife.
Siberian Rubythroats are a must-see bird for Brits abroad.
Nepal Cutia, perhaps one of the most desired birds among keen birders? the bird above is a female (spotted mantle), while the stunning male is depicted below.
Rufous-bellied Niltavas are woodland birds, but our lodges provide easy access to them as the gardens act as clearings in the forest.
From Pulchowki we could see most of the tallest mountains in the Himalayan range, including Everest.
Our time at Chitwan gives us ample chance to see the rare Indian Rhinoceros. This one had crows cleaning it of parasites.
The best way to see them is from the back of an elephant, while we also spend time in jeeps.
the Gharial is now a seriously rare sight, but we have very high chances of encountering one here.
not just any old moggy !! ..........this is a Jungle Cat
the UNESCO designated temples of Kathmandu are just incredible
even common birds are smart looking!! This is a Jungle Myna
bee-eaters in the mist huddle to keep warm

Large-tailed Nightjar
"Sarge.....we have a guy here texting while driving an elephant. What shall I charge him with?"
the magical forests are alive with deer, all wary of the striped or spotty cats that hide here
Spangled Drongo
Wallcreeper is another must-see bird
Black-throated Thrushes winter here in small flocks
Small Niltava is a jewel among the leaves
This Rubythroat popped out onto a woodland track, but darted back into cover as soon as anyone approached. By carefully organising individual visits, everyone enjoyed a view of this stunner.
four species of Forktail are possible on this tour
it is possible to visit several UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu
the Bouddhanath Stupa is the largest in Kathmandu and attracts many Buddhist pilgrims. The riot of colours make it an incredible place to pause for a few pictures
even the House Crows gather here in numbers
prayer flags fly from every temple
there is a photograph around every corner in the Capital
my Gran used to have a sewing machine like this!!!
I wondered if we needed to put up a prayer flag to ensure we see Ibisbill on every trip here? So far we have been successful.
phew, we didn't need a prayer flag for Ibisbill on the 2011 trip....there are four in this picture alone!!!
this river holds a few Ibisbill & thankfully we do not have to cross bridges like this to see them!!!!
this male White-tailed Robin was a real surprise find near Kathmandu
White's Thrush is quite common in the Botanical gardens at Godaveri, but always a challenge to see well
while we were watching this Oriental Turtle Dove, one was attracting crowds in Oxfordshire at home.
